Watch “Jesus – The Most Powerful Rule You Can Follow”:

WISDOM WEDNESDAY. Every week, you’ll get five powerful quotes from timeless thinkers (combined with some original insight):

In this video, I talk about Jesus, the Bible (The Gospels in the New Testament), The Book of Matthew, priorities, attention, regret, time, virtue, success, and building your best life.

In The Book of Matthew, Jesus said, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” So according to Jesus, the wise man builds his house on rock, while the fool builds his house on sand. And as you’ll see, to me, this is clearly a metaphor for the smartest way to build your life. What does it mean to build your life on rock instead of sand, and how do we do that? That’s what I’m gonna explore in this essay.

Let’s start at the beginning: what does it mean to build your life on rock instead of sand? Building your life on rock means that you’re building your life on a strong foundation, and if you build your life on a strong foundation, you won’t fall apart when hard times inevitably come. You’re able to survive and thrive in any tragedy. All the effort that you put into building your life won’t have been wasted, because your work stands the test of time. You’ll have this constant feeling of moving forward, and you won’t be regretful of how you spent your time. But building your life on sand means that you’re building your life on a shaky foundation, and if you build your life on a shaky foundation, you will fall apart when hard times inevitable comes. When tragedy strikes, you’ll find that much of the effort that you put into building your life has been a waste of time. You’ll feel frozen, or as if you’re moving backwards, and you’ll be regretful. You’ll say to yourself, “why did I waste my time on those things which don’t matter now?” or, ”why did I think those things were so important?” A lot of your time will have been spent in vain, and you’ll find yourself having to rebuild your life once more. So how do we get it right from the start? How do we build our life on rock instead of sand?

The life we build depends on how we spend our attention. Our attention is our most valuable resource, and it’s limited. So how do we decide how to spend it? How we spend our attention is determined by our priorities. And all priorities fall into one of two categories: time-dependent priorities and timeless priorities. So what does it mean, then, to build a house on rock? It means building a life where your highest priority is a timeless one.

  1. what a coincidence, just opened youtube and found this video uploaded like in 2 minutes lol – first time…

  2. What are more more examples of timeless foundations besides learning? Also thought the examples were a bit stretched to try to show your point. What if the rich man had friends? Would he have been ok too? Cool vid.

    1. Love, honesty, creativity, maybe it sounds a bit abstract but the strongest foundation is grounded in the truth.

  3. Thank you for this message it gives me hope. I will continue to have faith in Jesus! I have been struggling financially and mentally because I lost my job as a social worker because I declined the vaccine. I declined due to my pre existing health conditions heart disease and lupus. I’m on a ton of medications already warfarin and blood thinners. Living with lupus is challenging I’m in constant pain. I was denied my medical/religious exemption from Forsyth hospital. Since losing my job I’ve been struggling to provide for my two children. I’m so overwhelmed because both of my boys are autistic. So they require a lot out of me. My husband passed away three years ago so I’m all alone. I’m so down and depressed over my circumstances. I have been called horrible names and mocked because of my situation. I was even accused of lying by christians which really hurt my heart. Every month is a struggle and I’m in fear of being homeless. But I have so much faith that God will provide for me and my children.

    1. @C K we did not create ourselves. And we did not come from monkeys. We were created by God. God is the creator. When good and bad happen, I give him thanks. Just because you don’t believe in him, doesn’t mean others don’t and you can’t change ppls mind bc of your unbelief. That’s on you.

    2. God bless you. We will all keep you in our prayers. Trust in Jesus. He will make a way where you do not see one.
Deuteronomy 20:3-4 ‘Today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them. For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory’

  4. I think it was a very straigth forward approach. It was a very good thought, thank you!

  5. I cannot overstate how excited I am for these videos on exploring all the religions. Something that is on my list but its so good to get your condensed views on it. Too hype.

  6. I wonder whether there is just one timeless ground to build your life on , i.e. Learning. I would like to know if there are more,,,,, or …. all other such timeless priorities can be one or another form of Learning …………….
    Like to learn more ..

  7. Jesus had a lot of good teachings that sadly get overlooked or warped into something malignant by people seeking power over others. I wish more people who consider themselves Christians would actually strive to live and behave as he did.

  8. Very cool, Just wonder how mental health fits into modern religion, like those who wish to have a normal life with family & friends but are unable due to illness..we no longer believe they are possessed by evil spirits, do we?

  9. “you couldn’t have had more of a perfect perfect ending”. That’s like hitting runner, runner to win an all in pot in poker.

  10. building a good life upon a timeless foundation resists the pull of worldly distractions, we’re less likely to be consumed by pain or pleasure and instead are absorbed in awareness

  11. House on a rock: means living with awareness
House on sand: means living with conceptual thinking (flow of thoughts )
: Always there should be gaps between two thoughts because peace exists in that gap ❤️❤️

  12. To the *worthwhile person* seeing this, your dream is not dead. Don’t allow the past and current pains and hurts stop and define you. You’re more than a conqueror. Rise up and put yourself together. Keep pushing your future depends on it. I wish you all the best in life ❤️

  13. This will be the first YouTube comment I’ve ever made, but I need to ask: Would you or anyone reading this consider the goal of achieving self-actualization to help others in lasting ways to be a time-dependent priority or a timeless priority?

  14. Please decrease the quantity of ads on video. It is ruining my experience. You can probably loose one subscriber. This deep topics take time and deep thinking. We need to keep our focus straight. This ads are taking our attention on their products. I am your subscriber. It is my humble request to you that keep ads at beginning of video or at the end of the video, but not in between. Thank you🙏
